Like cars, helicopters, or remote-controlled drones, model shipbuilding is for everyone. Among the infinite number of existing models, there is definitely a remote-controlled thermal boat that suits you.
For some, the pleasure lies solely in the anticipation of piloting on the water. For others, it is a true passion, more complete and involving mechanics.
Regarding electric motor remote-controlled boats, they are most of the time delivered ready to use straight out of the box. While a remote-controlled boat with a thermal engine is often distributed fully assembled, it can also be found in kit form to allow its owner to make the adjustments that meet their desires.
Freedom is not only on the water, it is also practiced in the workshop...
This type of boat operates with fuel specially designed for model engines, ensuring a comfortable autonomy since you can easily carry a can with you to refuel as much as desired.
Where an electric motor boat is limited by charging time and battery autonomy, requiring the transport of multiple batteries to extend navigation sessions. Certainly noisier and capable of emitting odors or smoke - and therefore reserved for outdoor use - the remote-controlled boat with a thermal engine is closer to a real boat and thus provides stronger piloting sensations.
Especially in terms of speed: you can easily exceed 80 km/h! For some, the thermal engine also provides a sense of reality like with real competition boats.
Maintaining a thermal remote-controlled boat is important to protect it from corrosion, its main enemy which could cause damages not always visible to the naked eye. Imagine micro-cracks in the hull!
It is recommended to rinse your boat with clean water and a little soap, then dry it with a clean cloth.
It is also essential to check after each use that there is no water in the bilge or on the radio control elements inside. Even if your hull is waterproof, water can still enter during use.
It is absolutely necessary for the lifespan of your boat to turn the hull over and drain any water that may have entered. As for the metal parts, remember to lubricate them from time to time with marine grease, especially the propeller shaft (or stern tube, drive shaft).
And ideally, in the case of a remote-controlled boat with a thermal engine, we can only encourage you to drain the tank and regularly clean the engine to prevent it from getting clogged. You will increase its lifespan.
Engaging in this activity, whether as a hobby or in a competitive context, requires some precautions to avoid accidents.
Some reminders are necessary, even if they may seem initially incongruous.
Indeed, it is essential to keep in mind that a remote-controlled boat should not operate in the presence of people in the water.
Avoid proximity to swimmers, as the propellers of your devices are made of metal or hard plastic. When you are sailing at 50km/h and even though they are invisible on the water's surface, these propellers can injure a swimmer by abruptly cutting their skin, for example, when they do not graze their head. Or yours!
Even if you care about your boat, under no circumstances should you go into the water to retrieve it if it has stopped and remains unreachable or out of reach of its remote control.
It is also dangerous to handle your thermal remote-controlled boat or that of another pilot while it is running.
Furthermore, it is important to properly adjust the carburetor of your thermal engine on the shore before moving your boat away because if the engine stalls, you will need a way to retrieve it in the middle of the pond or out at sea.
Unlike an electric motor, a gasoline engine can stall at any time, and not anticipating this scenario can become very annoying to retrieve your boat.
