The P-38 Lightning played a decisive role during World War II.

Designed by Clarence Johnson and Hal Hibbard, this American fighter was the only one to be produced continuously from 1941 to 1945.

With over 9,900 units built, including 3,810 P-38L variants, it excelled as an interceptor, reconnaissance aircraft, long-range escort, and ground attack aircraft.

Its nickname "fork-tailed devil" speaks volumes about the fear it inspired. It was piloted by the most famous American aces and played a key role in the "Vengeance" operation, shooting down Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto's plane in 1943.
