A German aircraft model at 1/72 scale to assemble and paint

The reference 02537 Ta154A-1 & Fw190A-8 "Mistel" is a plastic model to assemble by gluing and then paint.

At 1/72 scale, it allows to represent the two aircraft joined in their particular operational configuration.

The set measures approximately 222 mm in wingspan and 173 mm in length, dimensions suitable for display on a shelf or in an aviation diorama.

The kit is aimed at modelers looking for an original German military aircraft model, but also at enthusiasts of experimental aeronautical configurations from the end of World War II.

The presence of several materials, including plastic, metal, and photo-etched parts, requires special attention when assembling the connecting elements between the two aircraft.

The Mistel system: an unconventional aerial assembly

The Ta154A-1 and the Fw190A-8 in a "parent-child" formation

The "Mistel" project was based on the combination of two aircraft with different functions.

In this configuration, the Fw190A-8 acts as the "parent" aircraft, positioned above the Ta154A-1, considered as the "child" aircraft.

The combination formed a unit intended to be used as a flying weapon against ground targets.

The model reproduces this particular arrangement in the form of a "Pulkzersteller," a term that can be translated as "formation breaker."

The choice of a Ta154A-1 paired with an Fw190A-8 allows to represent a less common variant of Mistel formations and provides a subject distinct from classic German fighter models.

Photo-etched parts and metal elements

Details suitable for 1/72 scale construction

The limited edition includes exclusive photo-etched parts intended especially for support and scale.

These delicate elements allow for more precise details than equivalent plastic parts and require careful handling when shaping and gluing them.

Metal parts complement the kit.

They include the fixing cables between the two aircraft, the stand, and a tail wheel element of the Fw190 in a folded position.

These components directly contribute to the representation of the Mistel configuration and require precise adjustment to maintain the alignment of the two aircraft.

Assembly, gluing, and painting of the Mistel model

Tips for the modeler

Assembly requires the usual tools for plastic modeling: cutting pliers, precision knife, files or fine abrasives, plastic glue, and glue suitable for metal and photo-etched parts.

A fine clamp and a folding tool for photo-etched parts can also facilitate the preparation of small pieces.

After assembly and surface preparation, the model can be primed and then painted with an airbrush or brush according to the modeler's preferences.

The paint references should be chosen based on the selected scheme and the available documentation on the represented aircraft. Metal details can be treated separately before installation to facilitate painting.

Markings and decoration of the aircraft

Two proposed configurations

The decoration allows to represent aircraft assigned to the 13th squadron of the 2nd experimental fighter squadron. The provided markings are presented as assumed, suitable for a historical assembly intended to illustrate the Mistel project without presenting these identifications as certain.

A first configuration combines the Ta154A-1 "KU+SR: 320005" with the Fw190A-8 bearing the marking "+".

A second one offers the Ta154A-1 "KU+SQ: 320004," also paired with an Fw190A-8 marked "+". The modeler can choose between two decoration schemes while maintaining the same overall kit configuration.

A model suitable for military aviation diorama

Staging a Mistel formation in 1/72 scale

The Mistel configuration is particularly suitable for creating a diorama dedicated to Luftwaffe installations or operations at the end of World War II.

The combination of two interconnected aircraft creates an immediately identifiable subject and allows for building a scene around a parking area, an airfield, or a pre-mission preparation site.

At 1/72 scale, the model can be integrated into a setting with a runway, a concrete area, a technical building, maintenance vehicles, and figurines. The cables, supports, and metal elements are particularly important in a close-up presentation: their finish contributes to making the connection between the Fw190A-8 and the Ta154A-1 clear.

Characteristics of the Ta154A-1 & Fw190A-8 "Mistel" model

The reference 02537 is a plastic model of German aircraft to assemble by gluing and painting, offered in a limited edition at 1/72 scale.

It includes exclusive photo-etched parts as well as several metal elements dedicated to the Mistel configuration. The set has a wingspan of 222 mm and a length of 173 mm.

Its historical subject, its two associated aircraft, and its connection details make it a reference for modelers interested in experimental German aircraft and military aviation dioramas.
