The Robart 607 pneumatic nose gear is designed for radio-controlled airplanes up to approximately 10 lb, or 4.5 kg. Compact, lightweight, and sturdy, it provides a suitable solution for models equipped with tricycle landing gear, especially sport airplanes, semi-scale models, and intermediate-sized RC warbirds. The 607 model operates with a pneumatic system and ensures the retraction and extension of the nose gear. Its mechanism is designed to offer smooth operation while securely holding the gear in position with positive locks in the retracted and extended positions.
The Robart 607 is a 90° retractable pneumatic nose gear. Its geometry allows the strut to rotate into the fuselage during retraction, clearing the front wheel from underneath the model. The strut is made of 5/32-inch hardened steel, approximately 3.97 mm in diameter. The mechanism also includes positive steering through a control arm, connecting the nose gear to the steering servo. This design ensures model guidance during taxiing, ground turns, and runway alignment. It is particularly suitable for RC airplanes with tricycle landing gear requiring a steerable and retractable nose gear.
The housing of the Robart 607 is made of fiberglass-reinforced nylon. This material helps maintain a reduced mass while providing the necessary rigidity for the mechanism to function. The system uses an aluminum pivot bearing that holds the hardened steel strut. The cam mechanism ensures smooth retraction and contributes to locking the gear in both positions. This design makes the 607 particularly appealing when looking for a lightweight pneumatic retractable gear for RC airplanes without unnecessarily adding weight to the model's nose.
Robart recommends the 607 model for airplanes weighing up to approximately 10 lb, or 4.54 kg. It can be used on sport models, semi-scale models, and traditionally constructed RC airplanes. The 607 model has been specifically paired with the Robart 605HD for the main gear on various RC models. A PC-9 model documentation, for example, recommends the 607 for the nose gear along with the 605HD for the main gear and a Robart 188 pneumatic control system. An example installation on a Delta Vortex RC uses a 605HD for the main gear and a 607 for the nose gear, with the 607 strut made of 5/32" wire.
The Robart 607 requires a pneumatic system including a control valve, an air reservoir, suitable tubing, and fittings. The Robart Air Control Kit is required and sold separately. The steering is controlled by the servo connected to the gear's steering arm. Therefore, an installation that maintains suitable travel and deflection for the model's geometry must be planned. The 607 provides a complete solution for converting a compatible RC airplane into a pneumatic retractable nose gear model while maintaining controlled ground steering.
