The Robart 160LWCE is a retractable and steerable electric tailwheel designed for large radio-controlled airplanes and Giant Scale models. This version is characterized by its left offset (LH Offset) and its electric actuator integrated directly into the mechanism. Developed for models weighing up to approximately 40 lb, or 18 kg, the Robart 160LWCE provides a suitable solution for large RC warbirds and big airplanes requiring a retractable, sturdy, and steerable tailwheel. Robart specifically references it in equipment designed for several models of P-51 Mustang, P-40 Warhawk, P-47 Thunderbolt, and F4U Corsair in large scale.
The Robart 160LWCE is a steerable tailwheel with an integrated retract mechanism. The system is equipped with an electric actuator mounted directly on the frame, eliminating the need for a separate pneumatic system to control the retraction of the wheel. The LWCE version has a left offset, suitable for installations where the fuselage and wheel well geometry require this configuration. Robart also offers versions with right offset and no offset, providing options to choose the mechanism that fits the airframe. The tailwheel can accommodate a tailwheel up to 2-3/4 inches in diameter, approximately 70 mm. The mechanism comes with the axle and the gear system; the wheel itself needs to be sourced separately.
The Robart 160LWCE is designed to be controlled by the rudder steering system. The wheel orientation helps guide the model during taxiing, ground turns, and takeoff. Robart's design mirrors its large-scale mechanical tailwheels, featuring a reinforced mechanism suitable for heavy models. The frame is intended to be securely mounted in the rear fuselage to withstand the forces during landings and taxiing.
The mechanism has a mounting height of approximately 2-11/16 inches (68.5 mm) and a frame width of about 2 inches (51 mm). The distance between the wheel axle and the bottom of the frame is around 2-1/8 inches (54 mm). These dimensions allow for precise verification of compatibility with the model's wheel well before installation. The tailwheel is designed to accommodate a tailwheel up to 2-3/4 inches (70 mm), and its steering system can be connected to the model's rudder control.
