The HMS Bounty, a historic ship of the Royal Navy

The HMS Bounty, a model inspired by a legendary mutiny (1789)

The HMS Bounty is famous for the mutiny that took place on board on April 28, 1789.

Purchased by the Royal Navy in 1787, this merchant ship's mission was to transport breadfruit plants from Tahiti to Jamaica.

However, the expedition took a dramatic turn when Fletcher Christian revolted against Lieutenant William Bligh, who was set adrift at sea with eighteen loyal men.

After traveling nearly 5,800 kilometers in a longboat to Timor, Bligh managed to reach land, while the mutineers settled on Pitcairn Island, where they set fire to the Bounty.

Building the HMS Bounty model brings to life a ship that has entered maritime legend.

This model allows you to discover the history of this eventful expedition while reproducing the lines of an 18th-century vessel.

It will naturally find its place in a collection dedicated to great historic sailing ships and vessels that have left their mark on navigation history.

Assembling the 1/45 scale HMS Bounty model

With 5,451 parts and an estimated assembly time of 650 hours, this kit is a long-term project.

The construction progresses step by step: preparation and assembly of the structure, planking, adding details, and then installing the masts and rigging.

The intermediate level requires working with precision and regularly checking the alignment of the elements.

What tools to have for assembly?

Prepare a modeling knife, fine sandpaper, pliers, a small hammer, a hand drill, and glue suitable for the materials.

A stable and well-lit workbench facilitates the assembly of small parts.

The illustrated instructions, plans, and video tutorials associated with the kit help guide you through the various steps.

Materials, painting, and finishes of the sailboat

OcCre uses several wood essences for different parts, with laser-cut boards to facilitate their fitting.

The kit also includes details in photo-etched brass, molded accessories in zamak, and cotton elements for the sails and rigging threads.

For finishing, you can choose to highlight the natural look of the wood or paint certain parts according to the desired finish.

Prepare the surfaces carefully and do a test before applying paint to a visible piece.

Paints and tools are to be provided separately as they are not part of the standard kit contents.

Displaying the HMS Bounty or integrating it into a naval diorama

With its 915 mm length and 720 mm height, the HMS Bounty model requires a suitable location, especially to preserve the rigging and sails.

The display stand and engraved brass plate help showcase the model in a showcase or a collection of historic sailing ship models.

To create a diorama, you can imagine a harbor scene or a maritime environment from the late 18th century.

Ensure you respect the scale of the decorative elements and leave enough space around the masts. A simple presentation helps keep the focus on the hull and rigging.

Who is this historic sailboat model for?

The OcCre HMS Bounty 1-45 model is aimed at maritime history and naval modeling enthusiasts who want to build a large wooden sailing ship.

Its intermediate level is suitable for modelers with some experience who are willing to dedicate several hundred hours to assembly, finishing, and rigging.
