The Will Everard model reproduces a merchant sailing ship built in the 1920s.
At a scale of 1-67, the finished model measures approximately 58 cm in length, 12 cm in width, and 49 cm in height. Its silhouette, masts, and sails reflect the characteristics of coasting vessels that transported goods along the British coasts and in the English Channel.
The Billing Boats 601 reference belongs to the 600 series, designed to facilitate the learning of naval modeling.
The hull is constructed in two parts, each assembled flat before the two half-hulls are joined.
This method simplifies certain construction steps and allows for a gradual discovery of planking techniques.
The kit includes laser-cut wooden hull elements, planking strips, structural parts, accessories, sails, rigging threads, plans, and assembly instructions.
The total number of pieces is not specified in the manufacturer's information. Glue, tools, and paints need to be provided separately.
For assembly, prepare a modeling cutter, cutting pliers, tweezers, sandpaper, and holding clamps.
A wood-appropriate glue is necessary to assemble the hull and superstructures. Work gradually, checking the alignment of the two half-hulls before their final assembly.
Painting allows for differentiation of the hull, deck, and equipment. Recommended colors for this model include white, emerald green, beige, blue, red, black, yellow, and a mahogany finish.
Prepare fine brushes for details and a varnish compatible with the materials used. Consult the instructions to apply colors in the correct places.
The Will Everard was built in Great Yarmouth, England, in 1925-1926 for the family company F. T. Everard & Sons.
It is part of a series of four 280-ton ships and has a steel hull. For over forty years, it was used to transport goods along the east coast of England, around the British Isles, and in the English Channel.
A diesel engine was installed in 1951, before the ship was retired from service in 1967.
After nine years of inactivity, it was purchased in 1976 by Overseas Containers Ltd. It then resumed navigation in European waters and visited many continental ports, becoming a witness to the tradition of merchant sailing ships.
Thanks to its dimensions and accessible level of difficulty, this wooden boat model is suitable for a first construction of a merchant sailing ship.
It can be displayed on a stand or integrated into a diorama representing an English port, a loading dock, or a 20th-century coasting scene. Provide a stable location to protect the masts, sails, and rigging.
The Will Everard 1-67 Billing Boats model thus allows for the discovery of wooden naval construction techniques while reproducing a ship associated with the history of British coastal maritime transport.
