The North American F-86 Sabre was the first swept-wing jet fighter built by the USA just after the Second World War. The F-86F version, produced in larger quantities, was delivered from the spring of 1952. It was an evolution of the F-86E with an engine some 14% more powerful, thus improving performance: a top speed of 1,105 km/h and a ceiling of over 17,000 meters. In summer 1952, a new wing (designated "6-3"), slightly larger and with a slightly more pronounced sweep, was tested, showing a significant improvement in high-altitude maneuverability. The adoption of this wing had an immediate impact on the Sabres' win rate against the MiG-15s. The latest series of F-86Fs was fitted with a bombing computer to enable them to drop the Mk 12 atomic bomb.
