Under the designation Oracover, there is a diverse range of heat-shrink films used for covering scale model airplanes as well as full-scale aircraft.
It is the LANITZ company, founded in 1975 by its namesake creator, that manufactures the various films known as :
ORACOVER, ORATEX, ORALIGHT, ORALINE, ORATRIM, QC-COTE, and EASY-COTE.
These films are distinguished by their highly sophisticated and patented technical characteristics, making them products of unparalleled quality to date.
Their extreme ease of application stems from the multi-layer pigmentation process: two layers of hard pigments sandwich a layer of flexible pigment, followed by the application of a transparent adhesive that reacts to heat.
This unique process allows the film to be applied, removed, and reapplied, thus offering the ability to correct application errors, which is impossible with a conventional film.
ORACOVER's exceptional stretching and retracting capability enables it to be stretched or shrunk at will using a heat source such as a film iron or heat gun.
This stretching ability helps eliminate almost all wrinkles along the contours. ORACOVER can be applied over a very wide temperature range.
ORACOVER covering films are also environmentally friendly products as they contain no heavy metals.
They are available in rolls of 2, 10, and 50 meters, in an extraordinary range of over 70 colors, thus offering a wide selection to both amateurs and professionals.
History of LANITZ Company
1975 - Company Establishment The LANITZ-PRENA FOLIEN FACTORY GmbH company stems from the LANITZ MODELLBAU company, which was founded in 1975 in Berlin.
Initially, LANITZ MODELLBAU produced and marketed scale model airplanes and accessories.
By the late 1970s, we began distributing the first mass-produced, ready-to-cover aircraft, followed by ready-to-fly models. With this mass production, the weaknesses of conventional covering films became apparent.
1984 - Covering for Model Aircraft
In the fall of 1984, the idea emerged to create covering films meeting the specific requirements of model aircraft manufacturers, thus optimizing ready-to-fly models.
1985 - Start of Production under the Name ORACOVER®
In 1985, production of this film commenced under the ORACOVER® brand name.
With the increasing demand for this film worldwide, we decided to cease the production of scale models and focus on this new product.
1992 - Product Range Expansion In 1992, the decision was made to significantly expand our product range, and Leipzig was chosen as the new production site.
To this end, LANITZ-MODELLBAU acquired and privatized the state-owned enterprise PRENA-Werk Leipzig GmbH and its VEB ISOFOL plant, which would become the new production site.
1993 - Commencement of Round-the-Clock Production Since 1993, ORACOVER® films have been produced with teams working in round-the-clock shifts.
Simultaneously, ORACOVER® film production underwent a complete overhaul and optimization with new manufacturing techniques. This new technology, developed by Mr. Lanitz in Leipzig, was patented worldwide.
1995 - Merger of Offices in Berlin and Leipzig. In 1995, LANITZ-MODELLBAU BERLIN and PRENA-WERK LEIPZIG GmbH merged into a new entity, LANITZ-PRENA FOLIEN FACTORY GmbH.
1998 - Development of Special Polyester Films with UV Protection Also in 1998, we developed special polyester films with UV protection for applications in general aviation.
2009 - Introduction of the first ORALIGHT Opaque Film In 2009, we developed the first ORALIGHT opaque film.
2015 - Design-Black Color Introduced In 2015, we introduced the design-black color for modeling.
2016 - Development of Matte Films Since 2016, we have also been able to meet the demand for matte films through another development of ours.
2017 - 2K-PU Base Filler that Does Not Shrink In 2017, we developed a 2K-PU base filler that does not shrink.
Aviation sports are a tradition in the company.
Siegfried Lanitz is the owner, manager, and patent holder of ORACOVER. He discovered his passion for modeling at the age of 14.
To this day, he participates in the development of new products; only products that have convinced his modeling eye reach the production stage.
His philosophy: only the best is good enough for my clients' models. He personally tests the products in our general aviation range for their suitability for daily use.
SCIENTIFIC MHD took over the distribution of ORACOVER products in 2018.
Our company is committed to offering a wide range of LANITZ company items at the most competitive prices possible for aircraft modelers.
