Designed by Frank Searle, chief engineer of the London General Omnibus Company (LGOC), the AEC B-Type was built in Walthamstow to replace the X-type buses.
Introduced in the early 1910s, it is considered the first mass-produced bus.
This London bus could carry 34 passengers: 16 inside and 18 on the open top deck. By 1913, nearly 2,500 units were operating on the streets of London.
During World War I, AEC B-Type buses were requisitioned to transport troops.
Approximately 900 vehicles were used for these missions behind the front lines.
An historic example, the B43 nicknamed Old Bill, is preserved at the Imperial War Museum.
The London Transport Museum also houses the restored B340.
