Why choose the F4F-3 Wildcat Yellow Wings model?

What does the box contain?

The box contains the plastic parts necessary to assemble the 1/72 scale F4F-3 Wildcat, parts to represent the characteristics of the early production series, a decal sheet, as well as masks for the canopy and wheels.

Arma Hobby also offers a free digital file for 3D printing. It allows for creating additional details, including a seat with harness, exhausts, landing gear chain links, cockpit controls, and machine gun barrels.

These printable elements are not physical parts included in the box.

It is a file to download and print with a resin 3D printer. Arma Hobby specifies that this file is intended for non-commercial consumer use.

What are the two proposed liveries?

The two liveries correspond to F4F-3s assigned to US Navy carrier-based fighter units.

The BuNo 1850, 41-F-4, belongs to the VF-41 and serves aboard the USS Ranger in 1940. Its green tail helps identify its affiliation with the aircraft carrier.

The BuNo 1880, 72-F-16, belongs to the VF-72 and serves aboard the USS Wasp in 1940-1941. Its black tail is another characteristic of this livery.

The colors used on these aircraft had a practical function. They facilitated the identification of units and sections within carrier air groups.

For modelers, they offer two very different visual interpretations of the same Wildcat version.

What does the Wildcat represent before its engagement in the Pacific?

The F4F-3 represents an important stage in the history of American carrier-based fighters.

The Wildcat entered service in the US Navy in 1940, before the United States' entry into World War II. The aircraft depicted here belong to this period when US Navy planes still wore their very colorful liveries.

This period precedes the camouflages adopted during wartime. It allows for discovering a less known aspect of the Wildcat, often depicted in its operational Pacific colors.
