The F/A-18 "Hornet" is a multi-mission fighter and attack aircraft, single-seat or two-seat, twin-engine, capable of operating from both aircraft carriers and land bases. The F/A-18 performs various functions: air superiority, fighter escort, enemy air defense suppression, reconnaissance, advanced air control, close air support, deep strike, as well as day and night strike missions. The F/A-18 Hornet replaced the F-4 Phantom II fighter and the A-7 Corsair II light attack aircraft, as well as the A-6 Intruder, these aircraft having been retired from service during the 1990s.
