The "Natal Native Contingent" was a significant force of black auxiliary soldiers in the British colony of South Africa, forming a large part of the defense forces of the British colony of Natal, and engaged in combat during the year 1879 (Anglo-Zulu War). The NNC was established in 1878 with the local black population to strengthen Natal's defenses. Most of the NNC troops were drawn from the Basotho and Mponso tribes, who had extensive experience in fighting the Zulus. The majority of NNC troops were eager to defeat the aggressive Zulu Empire, following the political and social upheaval created by King Shaka in the early century. Colonial period, 32 1/72 scale figures included for painting.
