I always prefer to consider two criteria before choosing a thickness:

  • the necessary strength;
  • the level of detail sought.

An interior partition obviously does not need the same rigidity as a floor or a building roof. Similarly, a small piece at 1/144 scale will be much thinner than a piece intended for a 1/24 scale model.

My advice is simple: it is better to have several thicknesses in your workshop rather than trying to adapt a sheet that is not suitable.

How to cut Evergreen plastic cards?

If I had to give one piece of advice, it would be this: never try to cut a plastic card in one go. This is often the best way to slip or get an irregular cut.

I always prefer to proceed gradually. A few light passes with a well-sharpened cutter are usually enough to create a clean groove. Then, it becomes very easy to cleanly break the plate along this line.

This method has several advantages:

  • the cut remains perfectly straight;
  • burrs are limited;
  • the plate hardly deforms;
  • the finish requires very little sanding.

For long lengths, I systematically use a metal ruler. It prevents deviations in trajectory and also protects the fingers.
