When to use an O.S. RP7 TURBO spark plug?

The RP7 TURBO becomes very interesting in several situations:

  • cool or moderate outdoor temperatures,
  • difficult-to-tune engines,
  • need for a more stable idle,
  • crisper engine response,
  • less nitro-rich fuels,
  • sporting or competitive leisure use.

I find that it often offers a smoother and easier-to-tune engine than some colder plugs.

Is the RP7 TURBO considered hot or cold?

The RP7 TURBO is generally considered:

  • medium-hot,
  • hotter than the RP6 TURBO.

This means it retains more heat in the filament.

Result:

  • easier combustion,
  • improved idle,
  • better throttle response,
  • often easier starting.

What is the difference between RP6 TURBO and RP7 TURBO?

O.S. Spark Plug Temperature Ideal Use
RP6 TURBO Cooler Hot weather, heavy load, intensive competition
RP7 TURBO Warmer Cool weather, easy tuning, versatile use

It is mainly a difference in operating temperature.

When to prefer the RP6 TURBO?

I recommend the RP6 TURBO instead:

  • in the middle of summer,
  • on very powerful engines,
  • with a lot of nitro,
  • when the engine overheats significantly,
  • in aggressive driving.

It better limits:

  • overheating,
  • pre-ignition,
  • full-throttle cut-offs.

When to prefer the RP7 TURBO?

The RP7 TURBO often performs better:

  • in lower temperatures,
  • to stabilize idle,
  • on finicky engines,
  • to improve throttle response,
  • for sporting leisure.

Many drivers find the engine fuller at mid-range with the RP7.

Attention: Turbo plug only

Like the RP6, the RP7 TURBO only works on:

  • turbo head,
  • conical housing,
  • engines designed for turbo plugs.

It is not compatible with a

My review of the RP7 TURBO

Honestly, the RP7 TURBO is probably one of the most versatile turbo glow plugs from O.S. Engines.

I find it particularly interesting:

  • for comfortable adjustments,
  • moderate temperatures,
  • engines that lack a bit of stability,
  • or pilots who want an easier engine to operate.

The RP6 often performs better under very heavy loads or in high temperatures, but the RP7 generally offers more flexibility and ease of use.
