Bougie O.S. Turbo RP8.

For use on track engines, 21 engines with "Turbo" cylinder head in very hot operating conditions. Piece.

The O.S. Engines RP8 TURBO is a glow turbo plug even hotter than the RP6 TURBO and RP7 TURBO.

It is designed to promote very easy combustion, especially when conditions make the engine more difficult to operate.

In RC thermal modeling, the RP8 TURBO is often used:

  • in cold weather,
  • with little nitromethane,
  • on engines that are difficult to tune,
  • to greatly improve idle and throttle response.

When to use an O.S. RP8 TURBO glow plug?

I especially recommend the RP8 TURBO in the following situations:

  • winter,
  • low outside temperature,
  • engine stalling at idle,
  • difficult engine starting,
  • low-nitro fuel,
  • searching for a very smooth engine.

It greatly helps:

  • maintain the glowing filament,
  • stabilize idle,
  • improve low-end throttle response,
  • make the engine more "user-friendly."

Why is the RP8 TURBO hotter

A hot glow plug retains more heat in its filament.

The RP8 TURBO heats up faster and stays hot longer.

This promotes:

  • easier combustion,
  • better ignition of methanol,
  • more engine stability.

However, a glow plug that is too hot can become problematic:

  • in high heat conditions,
  • on very powerful engines,
  • with a lot of nitro,
  • in intensive competition use.

Difference between RP6, RP7, and RP8 TURBO

O.S. Glow Plug Temperature Ideal Conditions
RP6 TURBO Cooler Hot weather, competition, heavy load
RP7 TURBO Medium-hot Versatile use, moderate temperature
RP8 TURBO Very hot Cold weather, stable idle, easy starting

The main difference lies in the operating temperature.

When to choose the RP6 TURBO?

The RP6 TURBO remains ideal:

  • in summer,
  • on hot tracks,
  • with a lot of nitro,
  • on very powerful engines,
  • in aggressive driving.

It better limits:

  • overheating,
  • pre-ignition,
  • full-throttle cuts.

When to choose the

  • at moderate temperature,
  • on slightly difficult to adjust engines,
  • to maintain a good compromise between responsiveness and stability.

When to choose RP8 TURBO?

RP8 TURBO becomes very interesting:

  • in winter,
  • when the engine easily stalls,
  • with low nitro fuel,
  • to facilitate adjustments,
  • on engines that are a bit finicky at low RPM.

I find that it greatly improves ease of use in cold conditions.

Beware of high temperatures

RP8 TURBO can become too hot:

  • in the middle of summer,
  • with a lot of nitromethane,
  • on large competition engines.

In these cases, the engine can:

  • heat up more,
  • become less stable at high RPM,
  • cause pre-ignition.

Turbo spark plug only

Like RP6 and RP7, RP8 TURBO only works on:

  • turbo engines,
  • conical heads,
  • engines designed for turbo spark plugs.

It cannot be mounted on a standard classic glow head.

My opinion on RP8 TURBO

Honestly, RP8 TURBO is an excellent spark plug for:

  • low temperatures,
  • easy adjustments,
  • engines lacking stability,
  • pilots looking for a flexible and very easy to start engine.

I find it particularly pleasant:

  • in winter,
  • for leisure,
  • or when you want to simplify the adjustments of a thermal RC engine.

RP6 remains better under very heavy load, RP7 remains the most versatile, while RP8 mainly focuses on ease of operation and cold stability.
