Remote-controlled model Colin Archer RS1 - Norwegian rescue sailboat to build (Billing Boats ref. 728)
Discover the remote-controlled model of the Colin Archer RS1, one of Norway's most iconic rescue sailboats, faithfully reproduced by Billing Boats on a scale of 1/15. This exceptional model captivates with its elegance, the finesse of its hull, and the richness of its maritime history.
Designed to sail as well as motor, it is a perfect choice for enthusiasts of remote-controlled naval modeling and classic boat lovers.
Built in 1893 for the Norwegian Society for Shipwreck Salvage by the shipyard Colin Archer in Rekkevig, near Larvik, the RS1 Colin Archer made history in rescue vessels with its exceptional seafaring qualities.
Its sleek hull and sharp bow allowed it to face the worst storms along the Norwegian coast. This sailboat, ancestor of modern rescue boats, served for over 40 years before being sold to private owners.
In 1938, it crossed the Atlantic, enduring violent storms off the coast of North Carolina, before being found in 1960 as a wreck in the Potomac River. Rescued and restored in 1972, it became the oldest rescue ship in Norway, now exhibited at the Oslo Maritime Museum where it attracts thousands of visitors every year.
The Colin Archer model ref. 728 from Billing Boats is a high-end reissue, faithfully respecting the plans of the original sailboat.
It stands out with an all-wood construction, with finely laser-cut parts for a perfect fit.
The kit also includes all fittings: masts, sails, pulleys, ropes, rudder, portholes, and deck accessories for a realistic and elegant finish.
This model is intended to be remote-controlled: it can be equipped with an electric motor and a 2 to 4-channel remote control, while retaining the ability to sail under wind power. Ideal for use on water, it combines the pleasure of construction with performance in navigation.
