Model Boat Kit – Hjejlen, a Masterpiece of Danish Naval History
Take a step back in time with this model boat kit of the iconic Hjejlen steamship.
This detailed replica pays tribute to one of the oldest steam-powered vessels still in operation, sailing today on the lakes around Silkeborg, Denmark.
Hjejlen made her maiden voyage on June 24, 1861, carrying King Frederik VII from Silkeborg to Himmelbjerget.
Built by Baumgartner and Wain — later known as Burmeister & Wain — she was a technical marvel of her time.
Remarkably, the original engine is still functional, allowing her to reach speeds of up to 8 knots.
riginally featuring a tall mast, later replaced by a funnel, the ship underwent several changes over the years.
A sun awning was eventually replaced with a permanent roof.
This model boat kit is based on the modified plans, making it a faithful reproduction of the Hjejlen as she appears today.
Designed for experienced model builders, this kit offers a unique assembly experience that combines historical significance with hands-on craftsmanship.
A must-have model to enrich your collection and celebrate a true icon of maritime engineering.
