Model of a boat to build - Hjejlen, a masterpiece of Danish naval history
Take a journey back in time with this boat model to build representing the famous steamship Hjejlen.
This faithful model pays tribute to one of the oldest steamboats in service in the world, still active on the lakes around Silkeborg, Denmark.
The Hjejlen made its inaugural voyage on June 24, 1861, in the presence of King Frederick VII, connecting Silkeborg to Himmelbjerget.
Constructed by Baumgartner and Wain - later Burmeister & Wain - this vessel was a technical feat for its time.
Remarkably, its original machinery still operates today, allowing a speed of 8 knots to be reached.
Originally, the boat sported an elegant mast typical of its time before being replaced by a chimney. Other elements were modified over the years, including the addition of a permanent roof in place of the original awning.
The boat model to build is based on these revised plans to offer you a faithful reproduction of the ship as it still sails today.
Intended for experienced modeling enthusiasts, this model requires patience and precision but promises a unique assembly experience, blending heritage and craftsmanship.
An essential model to enhance your collection and pay tribute to an icon of naval engineering.
