Static ship SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS 1/78
4.6/5
Specialist since 1955 The ship "Sovereign of the Seas" (in French: "Souverain des Mers") commissioned by King Charles I Stuart of England, was an iconic warship of the time. Launched in 1637, here is a more detailed presentation of this ship:
Architectural Innovation: The Sovereign of the Seas was considered one of the first warships truly designed according to a specific architectural plan, rather than simply adapted from existing models. It was also adorned with elaborate sculptures and extravagant decorations, making it a symbol of British royal power.
Impressive Dimensions: In its time, the Sovereign of the Seas was one of the largest and most powerful warships. It had three full decks and a large capacity to transport cannons, making it a formidable force on the oceans.
Armament: The ship was equipped with over 100 cannons spread across three decks, making it one of the most heavily armed warships of its time. This firepower made it a formidable tool on the naval battlefield.
Symbolic Significance: The Sovereign of the Seas was not just a functional warship, it also served to project the power and prestige of the English crown. The sumptuous decorations and elaborate details testified to the grandeur and refinement of the monarchy. It certainly had one of the most richly decorated stern castles of its time.
Legacy: The Sovereign of the Seas is considered a turning point in the history of shipbuilding, as it introduced architectural innovations and design techniques that influenced subsequent ship construction. Despite its short operational career as a warship, it left an indelible mark in naval history and remains an iconic example of the relationship between the navy, royal power, and art during the Stuart era.
The model manufactured by Sergal is a unique and very faithful reproduction. Construction by keel, frames, and double planking, laser-cut parts for a perfect fit of the pieces. Its beautiful superstructure features over 700 pieces of bronze cast fittings and 102 molded cannons, wooden deadeyes and blocks, flags in printed silk. Detailed construction plans in 7 sheets.
The cast brass parts for the rich decorations of the stern castle, sides, and bow of the ship are as usual with Sergal presented and sorted under a blister showing their precise locations so as not to be mistaken in positioning.
However, the construction of this kit is reserved for experienced model makers.
