British colonial schooner of 1774
Born as a vessel intended for postal service, the Halifax was purchased in 1768 by the Royal Navy and transformed in Portsmouth into a typical colonial schooner of the time. These modifications included raising the cabin platform to provide more storage space, raising the bulwarks with openings for the placement of 6 cannons, and constructing a new railing with 6 swivel guns. The external changes made to the hull and the alterations to the masts and rigging profoundly altered its original appearance. Sources regarding the life of this vessel are extremely contradictory. It is known that it sailed mainly along the American coasts during a rather complex period in the history of this country.
