HMS Resolution was laid down at Palmers Shipbuilding and Iron Company in Jarrow on 29 November 1913, launched on 14 January 1915, and commissioned on 30 December 1916.
From 1916 to 1919, the Resolution served with the 1st Battle Squadron of the Grand Fleet. During the interwar period, it joined the Atlantic Fleet, except for a brief period of modernization in 1930-1931.
