The M4A3E8 is the latest type of Sherman, which can be said to be exceptional work for its time. The balance of different capabilities is very good. Its balance in terms of firepower, armor, and mobility can be compared to the T-34/85 of Russia and the Leopard of Germany at the same time.
The M4A3E8 uses a new type of suspension system (Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension (HVSS), a distinctive feature that sets it apart from ordinary Shermans). Therefore, the M4A3E8 is also known as the M4A3 (76W) HVSS. The weight of the M4A3E8 makes the original Vertical Volute Spring Suspension (VVSS) system outdated, but the new HVSS can reduce shocks, although the tank is heavier due to increased armor and improved artillery, while the widened track reduces ground pressure. This smooth and seamless walking system also earns it the nickname "easy eight" among American soldiers.
