The Adler cars: the first passengers of the German railway in 1835

On December 7, 1835, the railway line connecting Nuremberg to Fürth welcomed the first public railway service in Germany.

The Adler locomotive, built by Robert Stephenson & Co. in England, pulled a train consisting of cars manufactured locally in Nuremberg workshops.

The approximately 6.04-kilometer journey marked a significant milestone in the development of German railway transport.

For this inauguration, nine cars carried about two hundred guests to Fürth.

The journey sparked both curiosity and concern: at that time, traveling at such speeds was still unusual, and some doctors feared its effects.

Nevertheless, the train represented a new way of transporting passengers and heralded the expansion of the railway in Europe.

One of the cars from this first line, numbered 8, is still preserved in Germany.

The OcCre model allows you to capture the spirit of these historical vehicles and pair them with a replica of the Adler locomotive to create a 19th-century railway set.

Assembling the Adler cars: an intermediate modeling project

Preparing and assembling the wooden elements

With 919 pieces and an estimated assembly time of around 150 hours, this train car model requires time and precision.

The intermediate level is suitable for modelers who have already mastered basic assembly techniques.

The various wood species allow you to build the structure and visible surfaces, while the photo-etched brass parts and zamak cast pieces add additional details.

Before you begin, set up on a stable and well-lit work surface.

Organize the pieces by step and double-check their positioning before gluing. Have tools for cutting and sanding wood, glue compatible with the materials, and small clamps for holding parts during drying.

The downloadable instructions help you follow the assembly order and minimize fitting errors.

Consider complementary accessories!

The tools, accessories, and products needed for assembling and finishing the model are not included.

Wood, brass, and paint: perfecting the finishes of miniature cars

The Adler car model combines several materials to reproduce the shapes and details of the original vehicles.

Laser-cut wood sheets facilitate the adjustment of the structure and visible surfaces.

The photo-etched brass parts provide fine details, while the zamak elements complete certain accessories.

To prepare the finishes, check the assemblies and lightly sand the surfaces that require it before gluing the elements.

If you plan to paint the cars, separately prepare paints and finishing products.

Test on a piece of scrap wood to check adhesion and finish.

You can also choose to leave some surfaces with visible wood, depending on the historical look you're aiming for.

Displaying the Adler cars in a railway diorama

These miniature cars can be showcased in a display case or incorporated into a diorama dedicated to the early days of the railway.

To evoke the Nuremberg–Fürth line of 1835, consider creating a scene with a railway track, platform, or a 19th-century station environment.

Pairing them with the Adler locomotive would allow you to depict the historical train as a whole.

Before selecting the decorative elements, ensure their compatibility with the 1/24 scale to maintain consistent proportions.

Rails, base, and diorama accessories need to be planned separately as they are not included in the kit.

This way, you can tailor the presentation to the available space and desired level of detail.

Who is the OcCre Adler car model kit for?

This train car model kit is aimed at railway modeling enthusiasts, vintage train enthusiasts, and collectors interested in the history of transportation.

Its intermediate level and 919 pieces make it a project suitable for individuals who already have some experience in assembling wooden models.

With an estimated 150 hours of work, it offers a detailed construction and allows for completing a display dedicated to the early European railways.
