USS Fletcher (DD/DDE-445), named after Admiral Frank Friday Fletcher, was the first destroyer of the Fletcher class and served in the Pacific during World War II. It received fifteen battle stars for its service during World War II and five for its service during the Korean War.
The Fletcher was built by the Federal Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in Kearny, New Jersey, on October 2, 1941. It was launched on May 3, 1942, sponsored by Mrs. F. F. Fletcher, widow of Admiral Fletcher, and commissioned on June 30, 1942.
