The galley of the Great Elector of Brandenburg The galley Roter Löwe was built in the Netherlands in 1957 and was purchased in 1601 by the Senior Councillors of Königsberg on behalf of the Great Elector of Brandenburg. It sailed as a flagship in Pillau from 1602 to 1605 under the command of Captain Peter Hintze. The dimensions of the galley Roter Löwe are not known, however, based on the tonnage of 240 tons and the construction methods of that time, a boat with a length of 28 meters from stem to stern and a width of approximately 8 meters could be reconstructed. Armament: 12 iron cannons on the lower deck - 4 pieces for firing stone balls on the deck and 2 others for retreat - 4 culverins. Crew: estimated at 30 members.
