British Army Cutter of 1797
This is a heavily armed cutter, built for the British Navy in several copies, more or less similar, in the second half of the 18th century, to deal with smugglers who were the first to use this type of boat (it seems that English shipyards built them in pairs: one for smugglers, one for customs?). Naturally, it was also used for military functions such as coast guard, port surveillance, reconnaissance, signaling, etc. From these cutters directly evolved, towards the end of the 19th century, the boats for sports and regattas. The model reproduced on a 1:72 scale is a specimen built around 1797. It is armed with 12 cannons and several swivel guns.
