American 54-gun frigate from 1765
The U.S.S. Constitution, an American 54-gun frigate, was launched on October 21, 1797. It had dimensions, sail area, and armaments superior to contemporary ships of its class. Its sturdy construction earned it the nickname "Old Ironsides." It was involved in several naval battles, the most famous being the victory over the English frigate "Guerrière" on August 19, 1812 during the war against Great Britain. It was later converted into a training ship and underwent numerous modifications. Currently anchored in the Navy Yard in Boston, it is destined for the naval museum. In the construction of this model, we used our usual method of metal gun ports that allow for perfect execution of openings for the cannons without the need to drill the hull, and we provided the doubling with plates, as in the original, which gives the model a very realistic appearance.
