French frigate with sail and steam The Orenoque was one of the first French examples of a frigate with mixed sail-steam propulsion. It displaced 2568 tons. While having an advanced mechanical propulsion system, it retained the typical masting of frigates of that time. Lightly armed, it was used especially for troop transport. The richness of the finely executed and faithfully scaled superstructures of the decks, the characteristic paddle wheels, and the classic masting give the model a new and original appearance.
